If you use "Maximum" dropout protection then the CPU hit is mute at the sacrifice of both instrument and audio latency (see Options, Audio Setup, Processing).Ģ) Here's the biggie if you are running Windows above 1080p: as with all other Softube plugins it still does not scale in high DPI mode. One heck of a trade off.both have a crippling downside imho. To be fair the tables turn regarding latency as the same comparison has the Softube Tape at 0.1ms per instance and the Slate Tape at 39.2ms per instance. As a comparison via the Performance Monitor each Softube Tape Multi Track instance will post 10-13% CPU usage (yes, that's per instance) while say the Slate Tape posts 2-3 CPU% usage per instance. Note: I've been notifying Softube once a quarter about these to no resolve as of yet.ġ) If you use "Low" dropout protection or lower to minimize instrument and audio roundtrip latency - It's far too CPU intensive to be used when you instantiate on move than just a few busses + main (this even on a newer i7-10875 5.1GHz). Two things to be aware of if considering use on the Mix FX (Tape Multi Track).

It's subtle, hidden, and creates a base for your mixes.Īgain, your mileage will vary with all of this, and I explicitly am an old idiot who is stuck in his ways, but it is truly the first tape plugin that made me excited for tape emulation. It's not like a new reverb or compressor emulation. But there are projects that I run into that don't require that feeling, and thus, I don't use it. If you are looking at creating a feel to your work, I recommend this. I don't use it on every session, just as I don't use tape on every (most) sessions. That said, I don't consider it an "effect" as much as it is a "feeling" if that makes sense.

I was VERY skeptical of the plugin when someone recommended it to me, but I absolutely adore it when I use it.

It's all there and it's all extremely good. I've tried a bunch of different ones and am consistently surprised at just how right this is. I still currently occasionally use a Studer A800 (a Studer B is emulated in this plugin but it is very close to the A in my old ears) and have an ever-shrinking closet of a few rolls of fresh GP9 when clients spring for it and in my very humble opinion, this is the best of all the tape emulation plugins available.
